Routine Maintenance & Servicing
Oil changes, brake pads, and fluid flushes for high-performance engines. We use the correct weight of oil and OEM filters every time. We check for common leaks in the cooling system while the car is on the lift.
Why specific oil weight is non-negotiable
At Tecnologico Meze, we keep it simple. Most Italian V8 and V12 engines are fussy about oil weight. We stock 10W-60 and 5W-40 specifically for cars like the 458 or the Huracán. We never use bulk-buy drums because heat cycles matter. Every car gets fresh oil from individual 1-litre or 5-litre bottles to ensure no contamination. Last month, we serviced 14 cars that had the wrong grade from previous garages. Using the wrong oil can lead to premature cam wear or vanos failure, which costs thousands to fix.
Brakes and Fluid Performance
Brake pads on a Maserati GranTurismo don't last long on the twisty roads around Hampshire. We check your pads and discs with a digital caliper. If you have 3.2mm left, we tell you exactly that. We won't just swap parts for the sake of it. For fluid, we use Motul RBF 600. It handles the high temps better if you take your car for a spirited drive on the weekends. We've found that 23% of the cars coming into our Southampton shop have moisture in the brake fluid, which leads to a spongy pedal feel.
Cooling System and Pressure Tests
Italian cars often have weak spots in the plastic expansion tanks. We've seen 9 cases of cracked tanks in the last 7 months alone. While your car is on our lift, we run a pressure test on the cooling circuit. It takes about 19 minutes but saves you from a head gasket failure on the M27. We also check the radiator fins for road salt damage, which is common in coastal cities like Southampton. Keeping the temperature stable is the best way to protect your engine's internals.
Filter Replacements and Intakes
We only use OEM filters or high-flow BMC replacements if you ask for them. Cheap filters can collapse under high pressure. We've seen this happen on a 2018 Ferrari 488 where the filter literally buckled and restricted flow. Our team of 3 technicians checks every housing for grit and debris. We also inspect the air intake pipes for any hairline cracks that could cause lean-running issues. It is a small detail, but it prevents the check engine light from ruining your drive.
The 12-mile Road Test
No service is finished until we drive the car. We have a specific 12-mile loop that covers a mix of stop-start traffic and dual carriageway. During this drive, we perform a back pressure check and listen for suspension knocks. Honestly, it is the only way to be sure the job is done right. We've been operating since 2017 and have learned that a computer scan doesn't tell the whole story. By the way, we record all the data from these tests in your digital service history for future resale value.
On the Dyno for Final Checks
If we've done significant work on the intake or exhaust, we put the car on the dyno. This isn't about chasing big numbers; it is about making sure the fuel trims are correct across the whole rev range. We check for flat spots or hesitation that you might not notice at low speeds. Our shop at 11 Oxford Road is one of the few in the region that bothers with this level of detail. We want you to leave knowing the car is safe and performing exactly as the factory intended.
